Farmers Field School

Gain the skills you need to manage your land sustainably

Farmers Field School is an “outdoor school” that promotes participatory and interactive learning to support Nauru’s local network of farmers in the uptake of sustainable land management practices.

This project, with technical support from the Division of Agriculture, will facilitate a community of restoration in Nauru.

Classes will focus on

  • nursery management

  • irrigation methods

  • seedbed preparation

  • planting

  • pest and disease management

  • organic farming practices of key crops

  • soil and water conservation technologies

  • agroforestry

  • etc.

Trainings on land restoration will:

  • focus on skills in soil restoration and forest restoration

  • be responsive to the specific needs of different sexes

  • be adapted to members of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups

  • aim to reach 300 beneficiaries, with a balanced distribution between sexes
